歌曲於1946年已經冩好, 但還沒有找到理想歌手演譯錄製唱片, 作曲人决定留為己用, 但可惜錄製後未逹理想, 於是另作他求 ....
"RELEASE ME" (And Let Me Love Again) 原曲於1946年由 Eddie Miller, Robert Yount 和 James Pebworth 三人合作, 並以筆名 Dub Williams 為創作人; 完成後, Eddie Miller 未能找到合適歌手代為演譯。至1949年, 以自己的錄音首次面世; 及後再交由 Jimmy Heap, Ray Price 和 Kitty Wells 演譯, 而較成功的是1962年 Little Esther Phillips 的錄音版本。
1965年, 一位名叫 Arnold Gerry Dorsey 的歌手, 得到任職歌星經理人的好友 Gordon Mill 拉攏, 成為旗下歌手之一, 又安排他在英國不少演唱機會, 可惜仍未見成效; 1967年, 一次電視節目 "Sunday Night At The London Palladium", 他被安排代替因病請假的歌星 Dickie Valentine 演出, 當晩他現場演唱是剛發行, 但還末被樂迷認識的新歌 "Release Me"。
此曲令他一舉成名, 而這首剛面世的歌曲, 把同期 The Beatles 的作品 "Penny Lane" 與及 "Strawberry Fields Forever" 兩曲都比下去, 並打入UK Single Chart 首位, 連續停留在榜內達56個星期, 經理人 Gordon Miller 有伯樂之見, 早將 Gerry Dorsey 之名棄用, 並改名為.....
