Chaplin 卓别靈拍製這部電影, 是由於被義大利歌劇作家 Giacomo Puccini 1900年的一齣舞台劇 "Tosca" 所啓發。電影公映之後十八年, 配樂作品 "Smile" 由两位編曲和撰詞大師 John Turner 與 Geoffrey Parsons 繼一曲 "Eternally" 之後再次執筆, 重新編曲和撰上詩一般的歌詞, 由 Petula Clark 首唱和錄音, 1954年, 唱片面世之後成為另一首....

1995年, 曾將此曲編録在自己的雙唱片專輯"HISTORY: Past, Present & Future", 1997年開始發行, 但不知何故 突然將發行叫停, 不過仍有些少唱片在德國, 荷蘭及南非流出市面, 至今, 這張專輯唱片在收藏家手中, 估計會叫價頗高。1996年九月, Michael Jackson 開始作世畀巡迥演唱會 "History World Tour", 此曲更成為開場歌曲, 還特别以此曲來記念英國皇妃 Princess Diana。在一次訪問中, 他對主持人稱, 此曲將會留待在 Las Vegas 的演唱會才再次公開献唱, 可惜, 未能如願 ....
2009年七月七日, 在悼念 MJ 的演唱會中, Jermaine Jackson 特別以此曲獻给其弟, 可見 Michael Jackson 對此曲的喜愛, 連 MJ 的摯友 Brooke Shields 波姬小絲都証實 MJ 確對此曲之喜愛及看重, 相信對他影响最大都是此曲美妙的歌詞。
