民歌年代的經典作品之一, 熱愛民歌的年青人對此曲是不可或缺, 很多場合, 如歌唱比賽, 表演或派對都聽到此歌曲, 不少歌迷都誤以為原唱是樂隊 "The Rolling Stones"。
"As Tears Go By" 是 "The Rolling Stones" 樂隊的經理人 Andrew Loong Oldham 強迫 Mick Jagger 與 Keith Richards 两人共同撰寫, 內容指定不以男歡女愛和不同節奏演譯; Oldham 將電影 "Casablanca 北非諜影" 插曲 "As Time Goes By" 改了一個字, 把 "TIME" 改成 "TEARS" 為歌曲內容題名之後, 把 Mick 與 Keith 兩人關入房裡直至把歌曲寫好為止....

此曲原唱是交由當年衹有十八歲的 Marianne Faithfull 作為她第一張個人細唱片, 樂隊經理 Andrew Loong Oldham 原本將此曲收錄在唱片的 B-面, 後來唱片公司將 A-面的主打歌曲 "Greensleeves" 掉到 B-面印製面世。Marianne 亦不負所托, 一唱成名, 此曲即登上 "UK Chart" 第九位, 同年亦登上 "US Billboard Chart 100" 達九星期, 最高至二十二位。
