Roger Waters 以此曲獻給父親 Eric Fletcher Waters, 對這位二戰殉職軍人的致敬。
父親於 1944年 "義大利 Anzio Beach" 的戰役中陣亡。 還未滿週歲的 Roger, 自始成長於單親的家庭, 與母親和哥哥相依 ....
從歌詞中很容易認識到這專輯中的主人翁, 正是 "THE WALL" 當中的主角 Pink, 他無法接受父親的犧生, 主觀地將全世界的戰爭, 盡歸咎於掌權人士, 這相信任何人生活於二戰年代亦有同感。歌曲一開始, 則給予英國對二戰後的政策及國家事務, 以極度不滿的評擊, 歌詞中充滿很多政治修辭, 巧妙地將歌曲人性化及點綴。
