Tom Jones 對這首歌的解述: "我認為抒情的曲調很重要, 而歌詞內容像一幅 "綠色家園" 的圖畫, 但直到歌曲的最後, 才知道歌詞是描繪牢獄裡面, 一個面臨被處絞刑的囚犯, 旦願遺體仍能夠送返 "綠草如茵的家園"。

1950年, 美高梅 MGM 拍製的黑白電影, 由大導演 John Houston 尊 侯斯頓 執導, 一齣以犯罪集團的劇情電影, 是珠寶劫匪的命運悲劇....
Sterling Hayden 史泰靈 希頓 飾演 Dix Handley, 為了要買回在經濟大蕭條時期, 父親死後被侵吞的牧場田園, 因此不惜鋌而走險加入釋囚 "Doc" Erwin 的犯罪集團, 在這次行劫珠寶店, 原可順利完成, 但因爆破而引致防盜警鐘鳴響, 守衛聞聲到來與 Dix 動武, 因槍械走火而傷及同伴, 最終仍掠走珠寶和攙扶同伴一起逃走; 事發後, 警方展開搜捕。
在逃亡中, 由於 "Doc" 懷疑律師 Emmerich 故意拖延這次銷贓或另有圖謀, 因而引起爭吵, 而他的跑退保鏢 Bob 卻拔槍與 "Doc" 相向, 但反被 Dix 槍殺, 不過 Dix 的腹部亦被槍傷。這一切發生後, 這七名有關嫌疑人等, 自殺和他殺有三人, 而被捕亦有三人, 衹餘下身負槍傷的 Dix 仍然在逃。雖然途中找到醫生治理, 醫生知道是由於槍傷, 反而向警方通風報訊, 卻被 Dix 聽到而不惜放棄醫治, 負傷逃亡遠離這個腐敗漆黑、暗不見光的城市。最終, 用盡氣力駕車回到舊家鄉, 踏入一遍綠柔柔的田園, 在原屬父親的牧場裡倒地身亡。
瑪莉 蓮夢露 Marilyn Monroe (1926-1962)
1947年開始從影, 由"茄喱啡 Carefree"小角色開始, 至1950年, 時年二十四歲, 在電影 "The Asphalt Jungle" 扮演 Emmerich 的情婦, 雖然是有對白的角色, 卻不在演員的名單上。1951年在香港的 "Queen's 皇后" 和九龍的 "Alhambra 平安" 戲院首映, 譯名 "梟巢浴血戰", 戲院的報紙廣告當中, 亦不見她的名字出現!

"The Asphalt Jungle" 影片面世後, Monroe 夢露 的性感和美態, 開始引起影壇業界和觀眾注目, 其光芒蓋過了女主角 Jean Hagen 珍 希瑾, 電影公司有見及此,
馬上把海報和所有廣告, 特别以她的名字為首, 並加上她的特大圖片以增票房, 同年, 獲提名参選四項 "Academy Awards 奧斯卡金像獎"。
至2008年,
被 "Library of Congress 美國國會圖書館" 選訂並存檔在 "U.S. National Film Registry
美國國家電影名册錄" 當中, 並確認為具有文化、歷史和美學的電影之一。
及後, 在香港的二輪電影院放映時, 可能是片商和戲院的宣傳手法或誤導觀眾, 把1928年的電影 "While The City Sleeps 暗探生涯" 用上一個令觀眾有遐想的中文名字《更闌人未靜》放在電影的報紙廣告下端, 內文亦冩着: "警匪大戰, 鬧到滿城風雨"; 劇照圖片和演員全是 "The Asphalt Jungle"《梟巢浴血戰》, 之外亦以特大的名字 Marilyn Monroe 瑪莉蓮 夢露, 和性感的相片來吸引觀眾吧。至1956年, 另一齣電影 "While The City Sleeps" 面世, 在港上映, 譯名 "深宵兇影"。

1954年在日本公映, "The Asphalt Jungle" 的電影海報亦以 "While The City Sleeps" 與及 Marilyn Monroe 瑪莉蓮 夢露 的相片作宣傳。在今天的網上平台, 這海報的市值是三千七百五十美元。
後來在日本的 DVD 電影版封套上, 亦把夢露的照片放置在最前, 而女主角 Jean Hagen 珍 希瑾 卻消失了!
GREEN, GREEN GRASS OF HOME
Curly Putman 一位六十年代退伍軍人, 婚後遷居 Tennessee 田納西州, 在鄉謠城市 Nashville 開始從事音樂創作; 在接受訪問時聲稱 "Green, Green Grass Of Home" 這歌曲的創作靈感是來自1950年的電影 "The Asphalt Jungle", 而歌詞中的少女名字 "Mary", 與及她 "Hair of gold and lips like cherries 金髮與唇似櫻桃", 卻巧合地是 Marilyn Monroe 瑪莉蓮 夢露 在影片中的寫照, 成為歌曲當中最動人和懷舊的片段。
1965年五月首次由 Johnny Darrell 演繹, 唱片面世後一年内已有七位歌手翻唱, 但樂壇的反應平平; 直至英國歌手 Tom Jones 把鄉謠改以流行歌曲, 富感情的慢節奏演繹, 唱片面世即打進歐美各國的流行榜, 令不少樂迷長時間衹停留在他的版本而不作他想, 其他版本亦少被關注。至今, 翻唱版本共有百個以上, 樂迷知道和欣賞過的有多少呢? 而且不少樂迷均認為這是男歌手的歌曲, 令致由女歌手以第三身去演譯, 成了較少樂迷認識的版本了。後來更成為反戰歌曲, 其悲吟與泣訴, 描繪在戰場陣亡的軍人, 遺體放在棺木裡, 送回到自己綠草如茵的家園下葬, 一幅令人哀傷和充滿鄉愁的景像！
