Theron C. Bennett (1879-1937)
接受媒介訪問時, 聲稱 "Melancholy" 首次公開亮相是1912年, 在紐約市 16th Street 自己經營的俱樂部 "Dutch Mill" 在客人面前親自彈唱, 而自己公司出版的 "Sheet Music Singer 樂譜歌手" 流行歌曲集, 在介紹這一曲時, 歌曲的名字仍然是 "Melancholy", 而 Ernie Burnett 曾經提議把歌曲交由 Sophie Tucker 作唱片錄音。
Walter Van Brunt (1891-1971)
1914年, Theron C. Bennett 把歌曲賣給在紐約市 New York City 的音樂出版公司 Joe Morris Music Co. 在他們的流行歌曲宣傳單張, 其中 "My Melancholy Baby" 亦是在介紹的歌曲之一。1915年, Walter Van Brunt 以歌手名字 Walter Scanlan 把歌曲演繹, 唱片由 Edison Re-Creation 公司錄製, 這錄音版本成為此曲有記錄的第一張唱片, 當中有兩節主歌是出自 Maybelle Watson 的手筆, 及後在其他歌手的錄音版本已不再重現。

William Frawley (1887-1966)
美國歌、影、視、演藝明星, 自默片年代開始, 一生曾参予演出的電影達一百二十多齣。1965年五月三日, 在電視遊戲節目 "William Frawley's Got A Secret", 他宣稱早於 "Melancholy Baby" 的印刷樂譜面世之前, 曾經在科羅拉多 Colorado, 丹佛市 Denver City, 位於 1647 Curtis Street 的 "Mozart Café 莫扎特酒吧" 與一眾朋友暢飲, 當晚歌意大發, 即席唱出了 "Melancholy" 一曲, 他亦强調當晚在座還有 "The Denver Post" 的撰稿人 Gene Fowler 與及 "The Rocky Mountain News" 的 Damon Runyon, 兩人均可證實一切。
有樂迷問: "他如何取得歌詞和樂譜呢?".....
George A. Norton 把新撰的歌詞完成後, 相約 Ernie Burnett 前往 "Mozart Cafe" 要傾談找人來試唱; 當天, William Frawley 亦在該酒吧內與朋友飲酒聊天, 酒保朋友跑過來告知, 在後堂房間聽到 Burnett 和 Norton 想找人試唱他們剛完成的新作 .... 及後, 雖然沒有錄製唱片, 但仍然是最為老樂迷認同的事實。
