Phil Spector & "Wall of Sound"
"The Teddy Bears" 樂隊解散之後, Phil 專注在創作, 和 Jerry Leiber 合作撰詞和譜曲的作品 "Spanish Harlem", 監製 Jerry Leiber, 編曲 Mike Stoller 棄用傳統的流行歌曲風格, 選另類音色的樂器, 由剛離開 "The Drifters" 的主歌手 Ben E. King 演繹, Atco Records 唱片公司印製, 1960年十二月面世, 這是不少樂迷認識的經典歌曲, 而最為七十年代的樂迷喜愛是 Cliff Richard 1969年的版本。

"THE SPECTOR SOUND" 一曲 "Spanish Harlem", 啟發了 Phil Spector 用不同風格的樂器, 去改變流行樂壇以往的製作方式。以二十歲之齡, 他招攬一些自五十年代美國流行樂壇, 沒有固定工作的樂手前輩, 把各類樂器的能量集結起來, 成立名為 "Wall of Sound" 的團隊, 目的要各唱片公司理解, 除了有自己公司旗下的樂手之外, 可以僱用外面不同風格的樂手, 参予唱片錄音工作, 令歌曲的音樂更多元和更廣闊。因此, 在六、七十年代的唱片公司錄音室, 僱用他們為歌手錄音伴奏甚為普遍。後來, 被樂壇業界稱之為 "The Spector Sound 音效程式; 而一眾樂手亦謙稱他們衹是 "The Wrecking Crew 散兵游勇", "The First Call Gang 急召幫" 或 "The Clique 朋黨" 而已。
1961年, Phil Spector 開始自立門户, 獨資擁有 Philles Records 唱片公司品牌之後, 除了歌曲創作方面, 又穿梭東西两岸流行樂壇, 遊走各大唱片公司, 四出物色樂隊、歌星和樂手, 参予不同錄音室的唱片監製工作, 又可以推介他的 "Wall of Sound" 樂手團隊。
1963年九月, Phil Spector 當領隊, 率領 "Wall of Sound Orchestra" 樂隊成員, 前往 San Francisco 三藩市, 在駐名的 "The Cow Palace" 音樂館演出。歌手包括來自東岸 New York 紐約市 East Harlem 東哈林, 亦被稱 Spanish Harlem 西班牙哈林區的女子組合 "The Ronettes" 與及 "The Righteous Brothers", 由於两人的二重唱引起 Phil 注目, 並有意邀請他們為 Philles Records 錄製唱片, 而當時自己的公司旗下全是黑人歌手, 因而, 他要一試起用在流行樂壇稱為 "Blue-eyed Soul 藍眼精騷靈" 的白人歌手。
"The Cow Palace" 音樂館演出之後, Phil 先說服了女子三人組合 "The Ronettes" 離開所屬的唱片公司 Colpix Records, 又拉攏 "The Righteous Brothers" 兩人, 從 Moonglow Records 同轉投 Philles Records 公司旗下; 1964年, 錄製第一首歌曲 "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'"。

Phil Spector 邀請曾經合作過, 住在東岸 New York City 紐約市知名作曲家 Barry Mann 和妻子 Cynthia Weil 遠赴西岸 Los Angeles 洛杉磯, 作客 "Sunset Boulevard 日落大道" 的高級酒店 "Chateau Marmont", 為求他們代撰寫一曲, 給予 "Righteous Brothers" 用作唱片錄音而已。
Barry Mann 完成譜曲之後, 繼而開始撰詞, 靈感是來自他有份参予1961年 "The Paris Sisters" 的歌曲 "I Love How You Love Me", 由歌詞中的第二句 "I love how your eyes close whenever you kiss me" 啟發他寫出新作的第一句 "You never close your eyes anymore when I kiss your lips", 接下來與妻子 Cynthia 共同完成歌曲首兩段, 當中 "You've lost that lovin' feelin' ..." 至 "Now it's gone, gone, gone, whoa oh" 這一句是 Phil 加上 "Soul 騷靈" 格調的演繹, 之外, 他所撰寫的副歌 "Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you" .... 至完結的兩節, 把歌曲由悲怨帶至澎湃激情和淡出; Phil 亦承認音樂"Bridge 過門"的結構, 以 "Hang On Sloopy" 其重低音結他和弦彈奏為範本。全曲而言, Phil Spector 任監製之外, 對樂曲主旋律的編撰可算是居功厥偉。歌曲面世至今, 各大歌手翻唱和其他語言, 包括香港的流行曲, 版本達二百個, 之外還有純音樂演繹四十多個。
