"SUMMERTIME"
是音樂劇 "Porgy and Bess" 劇中的個唱歌曲之一, 該劇是發生在 South Carolina 的真實故事, 講述一個生活於貧民窟的黑人跛丐 Porgy, 他想幫助一個與毒販共同生活的女子Bess 脫離窘境。
"Summertime" 這歌曲在劇情中的演譯, 最深入大眾內心的就是女主角以自怨自艾, 輕撫懷中嬰兒時唱出之情景。直至今天, 此劇在種族歧視方面仍有很大爭議, 所以並未被大眾廣泛接受, 但此曲則極受推崇, 被公認為二十世紀初期, 美國東南部的黑人爵士樂歌曲代表作; 至今天為止, 經重新編製, 包括十三種語言, 翻唱版本達两千七百多個, 是美國流行樂壇包括聖誕歌曲的最高紀錄; 而1965年由 John Lennon 和 Paul McCartney 共同創作的經典 "Yesterday" 亦祗有七百多個而已。
