THE YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS - The Story

"THE YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS"

"The Yellow Rose Of Texas"

Confederate Song - THE YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS - Minstrel versions (1858)
There's a yellow rose (Emily W. Morgan) in Texas that I am going to see,
No other
darkey / soldier knows her, no darkey / soldier only me;
She cried so when I left her, it like to broke my heart,
And if I ever find her we never more will part.

   CHORUS:

   She's the sweetest rose of color this
darkey ever knew,

She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever knew,
   Her eyes are bright as diamonds, they sparkle like the dew,
   You may talk about your Dearest May, and sing of Rosa Lee,
   But the yellow rose of Texas beats the belles of Tennessee.

Where the Rio Grande is flowing, and the starry skies are bright,
She walks along the river in the quiet summer night;
She thinks if I remember, when we parted long ago,
I promis'd to come back again, and not to leave her so.

Oh! now I'm going to find her, for my heart is full of woe,
And we'll sing the song together, that we sung so long ago;
We'll play the banjo gaily, and we'll sing the songs of yore,
And the yellow rose of Texas shall be mine for evermore.

And now I'm going southward, for my heart is full of woe,
I'm going back to Georgia, to see my Uncle Joe.
You may talk about your Beauregard, and sing of Bobbie Lee,
But the gallant Hood of Texas played hell in Tennessee.

[Chorus]

THE YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS
歌曲名字原是 "Emily, The Maid of Morgan's Point", 歌詞中的 "darkey 黑人" 改成 "soldier 士兵"; "Chorus 副歌" 第一行的 "darkey" 亦更改成 "little rosebud"。

From the 1955 Mitch Miller rendition, the song now reads:
There's a yellow rose in Texas, That I am going to see,
Nobody else could miss her, Not half as much as me.
She cried so when I left her It like to broke my heart,
And if I ever find her, We nevermore will part.

[Chorus]

She's the sweetest little rosebud That Texas ever knew,
Her eyes are bright as diamonds, They sparkle like the dew;
You may talk about your Clementine, And sing of Rosalee,
But the YELLOW ROSE OF TEXAS Is the only girl for me.

When the Rio Grande is flowing, The starry skies are bright,
She walks along the river In the quiet summer night:
I know that she remembers, When we parted long ago,
I promise to return again, And not to leave her so.

Oh now I'm going to find her, For my heart is full of woe,
And we'll sing the songs together, That we sung so long ago
We'll play the bango gaily, And we'll sing the songs of yore,
And the Yellow Rose of Texas Shall be mine forevermore.
[Chorus]
