NETHERLANDS - Holland 荷 蘭
"Nederlands" 荷語解作 "低窪土地"; 一個有十二個省郡的國家, 衹有一半土地是超過水平線一米。我們認識的詞彙 "Holland 荷蘭" 是國際社會和她的國民, 源用已久和約定俗成的名字寫和讀法; 在地理上(圖右黄色部分) "Holland 荷蘭" 是位於全國西面一個分開南、北兩省郡的統稱名字。
Netherlands 里 德 蘭
"Kingdom of the Netherlands 荷蘭王國" 和 "United Kingdom 聯合王國" 同是始於殖民年代的國號; 後來, 由於皇朝憲政的改革, 而普世對殖民歴史又有不同的評價, 令致普遍衹稱 "England 英格蘭" 與 "Holland 荷蘭" 的原因。
有傳荷蘭政府對沿用以久的國家名稱 "Holland", 將於2020年一月開始不再使用, 國家名字一律以 "The Netherlands 里德蘭" 為正式國名, 而慣用的中文名字"荷蘭" 和英文 "Holland" 亦同告終結。
由於荷蘭全國的另一半土地是處於水平線以下, 從歴史以來, 水患頻生, 除了在市內開辟河流水道以疏通之外, 亦要築起堤壩作潮汛防護, 而各項防洪措施, 令他們在水利工程和技術上聞名於世。在荷蘭, 有一個跟英文相同的詞彙 "Dam 壩", 和 "Dike 堤" 荷蘭文的 "Dam" 和 "Dijk", 是普遍用於國內大小市鎮、地方、廣埸或街道的名字上, 就是這原故了。"Holland 荷蘭" 原是地域省郡的名字, 是面向北海, 劃分南北兩個省郡的統稱, 亦是全國五大主要城市當中, 有三個同位於 "North Holland" 和 "South Holland" 省郡。
首府: Den Haag/The Hague 海 牙
位於 "South Holland" 省郡, 是國會與行政首都, 又是各國使館雲集地。還有一個設於該市, 我們從新聞媒界認識, 以世界一百九十三個國家為成員, 1945年成立的 "國際法庭 International Court of Justice" 與及2002年成立的 "國際刑事法院 International Criminal Court" 兩個國際事務的所在地。今天, 有「强國」已不再把其中的 "國際法庭" 放在眼內了。
商貿: Rotterdam 鹿 特 丹
同樣位於 "South Holland" 省郡, 箂茵河 River Rhine 流往北海的三角洲地域, 是歐洲最大的海港城市之一, 由於面對北海, 相隔是英倫海峡兩岸, 由船運年代興起至今, 在地利上更成了歐洲船運業的中樞, 船舶建造和維修之外, 亦是世界最大的貨櫃航運港口之一。
皇庭: Amsterdam 阿 姆 斯 特 丹
地處 "North Holland" 省郡, 是荷蘭皇國的憲政首府, 亦是皇宮所在地, 因位於歐洲中心, 又利於船運載客、鐵路滙聚和公路網絡之便, 成了歐遊城市必選之地。
六十年代, "Hippies 嬉皮士" 在美國西岸誕生之後, Amsterdam 阿姆斯特丹更成了歐美嬉皮士的滙聚城市, 各國青年男女背包客的旅遊熱點, 他們向往這個城市的生活文化, 對族裔包容、宗教開放, 與及荷蘭人的第一語言和官方語文以 Dutch 之外, 大多數市民能說英語和其他語言, 這令訪客更易於交往。

現今, 我們常掛在口邊, 各自分單找數 "AA 制" 付鈔的社交方式, 就是來自荷蘭的 "Dutch Treat", 這並不是他們互不關愛和吝嗇款待的文化, 這是他們對付出和所得, 有着非理所當然的看待; 我們要知道, 二戰期間, 荷蘭人曾經冒上生命, 把不少猶太人收留在自己的屋裡, 給予藏身、糧食、衣物、照顧和保護, 與及助他們逃離納粹德國的魔掌。及後, 經統計能夠逃出生天的猶太人, 是歐洲其他受戰事影響的國家, 所給予他們援助的人數之首。IL SILENZIO - 1 : WWII 二戰結束七十三年

遊客在小鎮坊間和市集, 仍常見一些店鋪把整藍子雜貨或蔬果, 店員以高開叫價, 逐步下降至價低者得的銷售手法, 這就是荷蘭式的 "Dutch Auction" 低價拍賣, 拙筆曾在荷蘭和日本已見過, 十分刺激和吸引人們的購買慾。在藝術方面有我們熟識的梵高 Vincent Van Gogh 名畫作品; 還有蜚聲國際的鑽石切割技術, 和今天世界各國的股票市場、期貨交易, 甚至 "經紀"、"買辦" 這職業, 和會計學術亦是始於荷蘭。最近有傳「强國」無法生產高質量的電腦晶片, 是由於荷蘭國家 ASML Holding Semiconductor Company 不願把那台製造晶片, 最高級別的精密機械賣給他們所致。

今天的阿姆斯特丹 Amsterdam 可見其歴史悠久的舊建築, 古老酒吧依舊, 紅燈區仍然存在; 但是, 又會成為全歐首個大蔴 cannabis, marijuana, 或俗稱 grass, weeds 合法化的城市, 可見他們能把傳統又開放和現代的生活文化融為一體。但是, 人們對荷蘭的傳統亦有不一樣的觀點和感受, 當然有正面和負面的看法。從音樂資訊平台, 有記錄關於這城市的歌曲甚多, 內容各異, 不同語言的版本為數不少; 為樂迷認識的詩人歌手 Rod Mckuen 把當地的漁民生活、孤寂的海員、酒吧和妓女、與及對這個城市的愛恨之間, 讓樂迷盡在這一曲 "Port of Amsterdam" 體驗出來。
