"ONE HIT WONDER 曇花一現"
1967年, 首張專輯 "Janis Ian" 和第二張 "For All the Seasons of Your Mind" 先後面世, 但後者成績平平。同年, Janis Ian 從第十班高中輟學, 離開校園, 投身音樂工作。
在樂壇至六十年代末, 第三張專輯 "The Secret Life of J. Eddy Fink" 和第四張 "Who Really Cares" 亦是最後由 Shadow Morton 監製的專輯, 完成之後, 並離開 Verve Records。1971年, 轉投 Capitol Records, 首張專輯如其名 "Present Company" 以表加入新公司, 重新振作, 不過仍然事與願違, Janis 除了出道的第一張專輯之外, 其他專輯和往後的作品均乏善可陳, 樂壇均認為 "Society's Child" 衹是 "曇花一現 One Hit Wonder" 的作品而已。
"S T A R"
1974年的專輯, 由 Columbia Records 印製和發行, 打進 "U.S. Billboard Hot 100" 榜內, 漸見佳績, 但仍未能突破, 而專輯的主題歌曲 "STAR" 及後由 Mel Tormé, Euson, Cher, Nina Simone, Barbara Cook 翻唱之外, 還有 Françoise Hardy 以法文版本的演繹。
還有另外一首, 是 Janis 早已完成多年的作品, 歴年來, 自己卻沒有信心去演繹, 至1973年, 先交由 Roberta Flack 首唱, 至1974年, 才收錄在 "STAR" 這張專輯當中, 令致不少樂迷誤以為這是 Roberta Flack 的歌曲。
可能由於 Roberta 的主題歌曲 "Killing Me Softly" 實在太利害, 把專輯當中 Janis 的作品 "Jesse" 掩蓋了, 雖然不被注目, 但這一曲亦有驕人之處, 翻唱的歌手巨星不乏, 這是 Janis Ian 繼第一首歌曲 "Society's Child" 之後, 經跌跌撞撞多年, 給她在流行樂壇一支强心針。
