Charles G. Dawes (1865-1951)
美國共和黨政治家, 芝加哥一間銀行總裁、鋼琴家、長笛手和作曲家; 1921年, 獲第二十九任總統 Warren G. Harding 哈定 委任為新成立的"Bureau of the Budget 財政預算局"第一位總裁。他致力制訂的"Dawes Plan", 解決了第一次世界大戰之後, 德國要付上各類賠償的方案, 因而共同獲得1925年"Nobel Peace Prize 諾貝爾和平獎", 1925至1929年期間, 任美國第三十任總統 Calvin Coolidge 柯立芝(1872-1933) 的副總統, 1929年總統大選之後, 第三十一任總統 Herbert Hoover 胡佛(1874-1964) 委任他為駐英國大使。
早於1911年, Dawes 把剛完成而暫時命名"Melody in A Major"的鋼琴樂曲, 在家中彈奏給到訪的好友, 小提琴家 Francis MacMillen 品評, 並請他代配上小提琴樂譜。及後, MacMillen 卻把樂譜推薦給一間音樂出版商印製和發售。翌年, Charles Dawes 被提名為 Illinois 依利諾依州參議院候選人, 開始其從政的意願; 在競選期間, 他發現樂器店的櫥窗, 陳列了自己肖像的曲譜發售, 令他大感意外並喃喃自語: "這樣糟糕的音樂, 必成為競選對手的話題了"。

這樂曲被公開後, 卻成了 Charles G. Dawes 競選活動的樂曲, 亦成為當年名小提家 Fritz Kreisler 每次演奏會的謝幕樂章之一。

"LET ME DREAM"
1940年四月, "Melody in A Major"被佚名的撰詞人改編及撰上歌詞, 以曲目"Let Me Dream"交由樂壇俱名氣的 Jimmy Dorsey & his Orchestra 演奏, 加上 Bob Eberly 把歌曲作背後和唱演譯, Decca 唱片公司録製, 唱片的標貼印上「Adapted From The Famous "Melody" By Charles G. Dawes」; 歌曲面世後, 在樂壇卻不被注目, 最後, 這版本再沒有歌手翻唱至消聲匿跡, 幸而在網上音樂平台仍有聲頻上傳, 但歌詞則沒有記載供查閱, 拙筆以遍聽遍筆錄, 盡量把歌詞記下來, 有待日後再跟進和修改好了。

"IT'S ALL IN THE GAME"
"Let Me Dream" 1940年面世, 不被注目, 至1951年三月, 再由 Carl Sigman 撰上新歌詞, 以曲目 "It's All In The Game" 的另一版本, 四月十五日交到唱片公司當天, 卻傳來消息這篇樂譜的作曲家 Charles G. Dawes 因心臟病發離世, 成了美國政界、共和黨和樂壇的噩耗。及後, 唱片公司人員對 Carl Sigman 笑謔, 可能由於 Dawes 不願看到自己的樂曲被弄跨吧! 樂壇為紀念 Charles G. Dawes, 把這編樂曲命名為"The Dawes Melody"。
1951年八月, 歌曲首唱是 Dinah Shore 的錄音, 同年亦有四位歌手演譯的版本, 至今, 除了 Louis Armstrong 的 "爵士 Jazz" 節奏演譯, 與及Tommy Edwards 之外, 而另外两位歌手 Carmen Cavallaro, Sammy Kaye 演譯的錄音則沒法在網上平台找到。

TOMMY EDWARDS (1922-1969)
"It's All In The Game" 1940年面世, 至1957年 Nat King Cole 的版本為止, 共五個不同的演譯圴未受注目。1958年, Tommy Edwards 跟美高梅 M-G-M 的唱片合約還有一曲待要完成, 而當年的"身歴聲 Stereophonic"錄音趨勢初起, 唱片公司把1951年他的版本重新編曲, 把原來的"慢華爾茲 Slow Waltz"節奏, 改為當年流行的"狐步舞 Fox-trot"節奏, 以嶄新科技錄製唱片, 同年九月面世, 銷量很快達至數百萬張, 登上美國"Billboard Best Sellers In Stores"榜第十八位, 與及"R&B Best Seller" 榜首位置。一首沉寂近七年的作品, 經重新編製才引起流行樂壇一番漣漪, 給了 Tommy Edwards 往後在樂壇重拾聲勢的機緣。可惜, 他不能目睹此曲在流行樂壇的迴響; 翌年, 因患上腦動脈瘤病世, 終年四十七歲。
