OTIS REDDING 1941-1967
1965年八月, 唱片面世之後, 不少歌手或樂隊在翻唱演繹 "RESPECT" 時, 多數仍忠於原作品的精神, 當時, 沒有其他版本與原曲的內容有差距, 衹是演繹的風格和樂器不同而已。
歌曲面世後, 樂迷從歌詞中有特別的闡釋, 認為 "RESPECT 尊重" 的潛台詞, 是性愛的婉辭, 在男女關係而言, 男人花錢和甜言蜜語以一討歡心, 以為是理所當然, 默許以性爱為回饋, 這樣的意識是對 "RESPECT 尊重" 誤解了。
1967年四月有突破, 由女性歌手演繹的版本面世, 引起美國黑人的藍調和騷靈音樂一番熱潮。同年十二月十日, Otis Redding 在一次墜機意外, 不幸身亡, 終年衹有二十六歲, 未能目睹或耳聞他的作品, 在往後流行樂壇的影響。
