Buddy Holly
自幼受父母和哥哥的音樂熏陶之外, 影響他音樂領域的歌手有 Hank Williams, Jimmie Rodger 和 Hank Snow 等; 加上每天陪伴他的電台流行歌曲節目, 與及入讀高校之後, 經常與校友樂手演練和樂理交流, 成了走進流行樂壇的道路。
1952年, 與校友 Jack Neal 組成 "Buddy and Jack" 参加電視台天才表演比賽, 及後 Jack Neal 離開, 加入了 Bob Montgomery 成為 "Buddy and Bob" 組合, 自此, 常在各社區舉辦的音樂會参予表演。1953年, 開始在 Lubbock KDAV 電台主辦每週的 "Sunday Party 星期日派對" 節目, 参予現場演唱。往後的日子, 他原傾向和喜愛的西部鄉謠歌曲, 漸漸被電台深宵節目的藍調歌曲感染, 把兩者混而為一, 成為他的音樂風挌。
1955年, 高校畢業後, 受到 KDAV 電台監製 Pappy Dave Stone 邀請, 二月在 Fair Park Coliseum 和四月在 Cotton Club 舉辦 Elvis Presley 演唱會任嘉賓樂隊, 當時成員共三人, 低音琴手 Larry Welborn 和鼓手 Jerry Allison; 繼而是十月, Bill Haley & His Comets 的演唱會, 亦担任嘉賓樂隊。
頻頻亮相之後, 被 Nashville 納殊維爾的星探 Eddie Crandall 看中, 推薦給 Grand Ole Opry 音樂會的經理 Jim Denny, 並安排他們在鄉謠歌手 Faron Young 的巡廻演唱會, 以樂隊名字 "Buddy Holly and the Two Tones" 任表演嘉賓。
"BLUE DAYS, BLACK NIGHTS"
1956年二月, 獲得 Decca Records 唱片公司的歌手合約, 由於唱片公司把個人合約的 Buddy Holley 誤寫成 "Buddy Holly", 自此, 這名字應用在日後的唱片封套上。首張唱片錄音, 由監製 Owen Bradley 執行, 1956年四月, 唱片面世, A-面 "Blue Days, Black Nights", B-面 "Love Me"。
十二月, 第二張單曲唱片 "Modern Don Juan" 和 "You Are My One Desire" 兩曲, 監製卻用上自己所選的樂手和加上管樂吹奏, Buddy Holly 認為自己組合的樂手和原創音樂不被尊重, 因而不快; 結果, 兩張唱片同樣不受歡迎。1957年一月, 唱片公司告知不再續約, 還特别聲明, 在他的唱片合約期內, 所有已經發行, 與及已完成錄音仍未印製的歌曲, 五年內不能為其他公司品牌錄製唱片。
