"It Doesn't Matter Anymore"
Paul Anka 1958年十月寫給 Buddy Holly 的作品, 收錄在1959年一月五日面世的單曲細唱片, B-面 "Raining In My Heart", 兩曲在英美流行樂壇同被受樂迷歡迎; 在歌曲面世不夠一個月, Buddy Holly 因墜機意外罹難。二十五天之後, 二月二十八日, "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" 再收錄在 "The Buddy Holly Story Vol.1" 的專輯當中。
"It Doesn't Matter Anymore" 一篇愛情的遺言:
"Now you go your way baby and I'll go mine
Now and forever 'till the end of time"
Paul Anka, 時年十八歲, 失去這位視作前輩歌手, 感悲痛之餘, 還自怨這曲目名字和內容隱藏着陰暗的一面; 在 Buddy Holly 的葬禮中又不見他的遺孀 María 出現, 後來才知道, 她從電視報導中得知丈夫的死訉, 當時她懷孕剛兩週, 驚悸與身心受創, 至幾天後引發流產, 因而留在家中, 卧床療養, 不能在葬禮中陪伴夫傍, 送别他長眠黄土下而倍感悲傷。及後, Paul Anka 自悔一曲成讖, 甚為內疚, 决要把這一曲以後的版税收益, 全給予 Buddy 的妻子, 以表關懷。
María Holly 在接受媒界訪問時, 仍自疚泣訴:
"在某種程度上, 我要責備自己, 他離開時我已感不舒服, 又不及時告他已懷孕, 雖然希望能跟他一起, 但是旅程早已安排, 這仍然是錯在自己, 衹要我决意跟隨在他身傍, 深信 Buddy 為了我, 他絕不會乘坐那小型飛機"。
