Elvis Presley 演繹這一曲的起因, 是由於妻子 Priscilla 在 Los Angeles 洛杉磯 Sunset Boulevard 日落大道駕車途中, 從車上的收音機聽到電台正在播放 Mickey Newbury 的一曲 "An American Trilogy", 她心想這歌曲由丈夫演繹是最好不過, 她馬上掉頭回家, 說服了 Elvis 把歌曲錄製成唱片。

1972年四月唱片面世之後, 在每次 Elvis 的演唱會, 他把這首作品演繹得淋漓盡致, 令現場氣紛高昂, 大受樂迷歡迎, 自此成為他的演唱會標誌歌曲之一, 至2020年, 有記錄的翻唱版本七十多個; 在網上的音樂視訊平台查看這一曲 "An American Trilogy" - LIVE 的話, 除了 Elvis Presley 混身解數的版本之外, 似乎難有他選, 之後在美國本土的文娛活動或集會, 成為一首充滿凝聚力和激勵士氣的壓場歌曲之一。
