Edward VII 愛德華七世的加冕禮延遲; "Coronation Ode, Op.44" 的終結篇 "Land of Hope and Glory" 對當時的 Edward Elgar 是不樂見原作品被撰上歌詞, 但他卻把樂曲的音符修飾, 以配合 的原著, 完成另一版本交由女低音歌唱家 Clara Butt 在 London 倫敦 Royal Albert Hall 亞爾拔堂舉辦的 "Coronation Concert 加冕音樂會" 先作個人首演, 一個星期後, 才在 Covent Garden 高雲花園的加冕禮音樂會, 由樂團和合唱詩班演出。
自此, 在不同場合或其他歌手演繹 "Land of Hope and Glory", 多數是 Clara Butt (1872-1936) 的版本, 亦衹取第二節的副歌而已, 主因其用詞較為平民化, 但是, 其中 "Wider still, and wider, Shall thy bounds be set" 這一句, 亦被認為含有擴闊殖民領域的意思; 不過, 在文化生活、體育運動、各類球賽、大小集會或音樂演藝會, 可解讀在完結之時, 一首以示 "曲終人散" 亦是 "振奮和激勵人心" 的歌曲, 讓参予的精神可無邊際伸延; 特别在英國本土, 被公認為 "體育贊歌", 而不少國家, 普羅大眾均視為 "平民國歌 Civil Anthem"。

Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 - LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY (Last Night of the Proms 2014)
1905年, 美國 Yale University 耶魯大學, 音樂教授 Samuel Sanford 邀請 Edward Elgar 莅臨大學的畢業禮, 並接受榮譽音樂博士銜和演講。在儀式開始前, 他被邀與大學的合唱團、音樂教師、多位來自紐約的音樂家和 New Haven Symphony Orchestra, 合演他的作品 "The Light of Life, Op.29"; 繼而是畢業學生和教職員的步操禮, 樂曲以 "Pomp and Circumstance March No.1 - Land of Hope and Glory"; 自此, 成為美國、加拿大和菲律賓一些高校和大學的畢業禮, 傳統的 "The Graduation March 畢業禮步操" 樂曲。
King Edward VII 愛德華七世1902年登基加冕, 繼而 Great Britain 大不列顛三位國王登基, 亦取同一樂章, 選其中適合的段節用作加冕儀式的頌歌。
