一首音色和旋律算是平淡的歌曲, 以 Yiddish 猶太語和英語同時演譯之外, 英語歌詞亦未見感人, 但對為人子女卻有普世的訊息, 讓我們回憶兒時與及對己故母親的懷念, 旦願由這一曲能告訴她, 孩兒對過去的遺憾和今天的慨嘆。
這是二十年代初的歌曲作品, 及後亦更以 "My Yiddishe Mama" 為歌曲名字, 歌詞是 Jack Yellen 的手筆, 而撰曲亦是 Yellen 跟 Lew Pollack 兩人合作。首次唱片錄音由舞台劇場知名藝人 Willie Howard, 他是美國出生的意大利裔西西里人, 與哥哥 Eugene 兩人是帶領猶太演藝人踏足美國表演舞台的先軀。

Willie Howard 首次唱片錄音, 但未被樂迷關注 (至今, 此曲仍沒有找到他的錄音)。1925年, 由歌舞表演團的藝人 Sophie Tucker 首次以此曲亮相紐約 New York "皇宮劇院 Palace Theater" 贏得樂迷歡迎。這首歌曲的 Yiddish 猶太語歌詞, 在原意上較英語歌詞更俱悲愁傷感。在當年代的猶太人, 要融入美國社會文化之外, 更不會輕易忘掉對母親的情懷, 否則會被受譴責和愧疚一生。
雙 語 唱 片
同年, Sophie Tucker 與鋼琴、作曲家 Ted Shapiro 的樂隊作唱片錄音, 當時由於她的母親去世不久, 此曲更像似是為她而寫, 她把這份悲傷的心情盡在曲中傾訴出來; 收錄在唱片的 A-面以英語, B-面以猶太語, 創唱片業先河, 以一曲分別兩種語言, 同在一張 78rpm 唱片出現, 很快便售出一百萬張。自此一曲, Sophie Tucker 與 Ted Shapiro 兩人合作達四十六年, 大部份她的歌曲是 Ted Shapiro 的作品。

一位生於荷蘭 Holland 阿姆斯特丹 Amsterdam 的猶太裔演唱家, 他精通猶太、希伯來、英、德、法、荷蘭語言。唱片公司給他在同一歌曲, 以嶄新的雙語演譯, 而歌詞較原作品 Yiddish 猶太語簡短, 完成錄製 "My Yiddishe Mama", 之後成了最吸引樂迷的版本, 流行至世界樂壇; 繼而, 不少歌手均以雙語演譯, 成了樂界歌手另一潮流。
