這是1979年的唱片專輯 "THE WALL" 其中一首歌曲 "VERA" 的一句歌詞; 故事主人翁, 少年的"Pink"眼看着一些孩子能夠迎接参軍的父親回家, 而自己要面對父親陣亡的悲痛, 此曲是 Roger Waters 對當年 Vera Lynn 的一曲不能苟同與質疑。
VERA LYNN (Vera Margaret Welch)
1917年三月二十日, 出生於英國倫敦東部的一個基層家庭, 父親是水喉工匠。七歲已参予歌藝表演, 至十一歲放棄學業, 開始以演藝作職業, 她遊遍了整個英格蘭, 演出不同的音樂廳。幾經努力, 到了三十年代後期, 成為一個受歡迎的電台節目主持人。
"SINCERELY YOURS"
二戰期間的一個電台廣播節目的名字, Vera Lynn 以 "鄰家女孩" 的形象, 在節目中親自唱出一些温馨與勵志的歌曲, 讀出一些聽眾來信, 給離家服兵役的軍人與家人, 摯愛親友, 願他們能早日回家團聚, 成了相互問候的一度橋樑。憑着這樣關懐與紓解, 成為 "BBC英國廣播電台" 的最受歡迎節目之一。
"Dover Cliff" 是英國 Dover 這地方的海岸, 面向法國海峽的懸崖, 其引人注目的外觀是純白色的碳酸鈣, 強調了黑色燧石的條紋。懸崖上的東部至西部是 Kent 根德郡的 "Dover 多佛市", 一個古老而仍然重要的海港。
