今天是赤口, 傳統智慧是少說話為妙, 因此我希望透過文字, 和各位分享一首「應節」歌曲《The Sound of Silence》。
六十年代, 資本主義帶來的問題開始浮面, 時值越戰, 反戰浪潮一浪接一接。Paul Simon 的歌詞描述當時的社會狀況: 為了名利, 人的交往流於表面, 講話總是言不及義, 聆聽卻不用心裝載 ( People talking without speaking, People hearing without listening )。人們的不滿和控訴, 只能在隧道、公寓大堂以塗鴉方式宣泄 ( The words of the prophets are written on the subway walls and tenement halls ), 即使萬籟無聲, 但大眾的訴求卻已經十分清晰。
一首歌能夠歷久不衰, 正因為在不同的時空, 不同的群體都能找到自己的詮釋和共鳴。那個年代的美國人在精神上的勞累, 和今天的香港人其實有幾分相似, 雖然我們的隧道、大堂較美國整潔, 沒有七彩的塗鴉, 但只要到互聯網瀏覽一下, 來自世代的聲音其實十分清晰。
沉默並非無聲, 面對各種不同意見, 我們應該繼續持續的撕裂, 還是重新構建共融社會? 這也是隔了五十多年後, 我再聽回《The Sound of Silence》這首歌給我的啟示。

SIMON AND GARFUNKEL
六十年代初, 美國陷越戰如火如荼的時期。1963年十一月二十二日, 時任總統約翰甘迺迪 John F. Kennedy 遇剌身亡。事件發生後, 令全國的政治氣紛緊張、混亂和恐慌蔓延全國; 民眾活於惶恐和無助感的日子, 年青人的反戰情緒高漲, 發聲或批評均不被聆聽、接受和關注。1964年, Simon and Garfunkel 兩人組合, 藉着此曲對時局作控訴, 給人們一些紓解。撰寫此曲是當年祗有二十一歲的 Paul Simon。
THE SOUNDS OF SILENCE 沉默的聲音
1964十月唱片面世, 在樂壇的反應不佳, 而導致兩人組合的拆夥, Paul Simon 前往英國, 而 Art Garfunkel 入讀紐約市 New York City 哥倫比亞大學 Columbia University。1965年初, 此曲才開始在 Boston 波士顿和 Florida 佛羅里達州的電台播放, 因此再引起原曲的監製人 Tom Wilson 注意, 在沒有通知 Paul Simon, 他把原錄音聲軌加上電結他和鼓樂節奏, 重新混音演譯; 歌曲名字原來意思的 "SOUNDS 聲音" 改以 "SOUND 完美", 1965年九月重新面世。至今, 這經典作品被翻唱和不同語言演譯的版本, 有記錄的達一百四十多個。
