HARRY BELAFONTE (1927-2023)
"Hava Nagila" 的撰詞人 Abraham Zvi Idelsohn 1918年在 Jerusalem 耶路撒冷的音樂會上, 親自作首唱之後, 繼而是五十年代由 Harry Belafonte 在二戰後的德國演唱, 而首張唱片面世是1957年由他演繹的版本; 自此, 有不少非猶太裔的歌手藝人亦開始以猶太語演繹和錄製唱片。後來, Harry Belafonte 回憶起自己最喜愛的兩首歌曲, 分別是 "Day-O" 又名 "Banana Boat Song" 與及 "Hava Nagila"。

多年之後, 他對紀錄片導演 Roberta Grossman 提及發生在二十世紀五十年代最感人的經歷, 就是站在十年前曾犯下大規模屠殺罪行的德國土地上, 獻唱 "Hava Nagila" 這一曲在完結時, 場內所有年輕的德國樂迷, 卻不停地重複高吭着 Hebrew 希伯來語的 "Let us have peace 讓我們和平, Let us rejoice 讓我們歡欣", 當時的情景令他感觸和激動。2023年四月二十五日, Harry Belafonte 在紐約去世, 享年九十六歲。
"Hava Naliga" 洋溢着喜悅和振奮人心的曲調和歌詞, 由溫柔的咏唱, 至邁進激昂節奏之時, 傳遞著一個深刻的猶太真理, 人們都渴望能克服生活中的任何挑戰。至今, 不少人仍然渴望着幸福的日子, 這首作品可以從歌唱或聆聽中得到的喜悅, 能夠在動盪不安的日子帶給人們一絲慰藉和勉勵。
Harry Belafonte 1957年的唱片錄音面世之後, 在流行樂壇至今的記錄, "Hava Nagila" 的原創猶太語版本, 由不同歌手演繹和錄製唱片有七十三首, 純音樂演繹一百一十首, 九種語言的十三個歌詞版本共三十四首, 在各國樂壇面世, 當中最為香港樂迷認識的歌手, 有 Connie Francis, Matt Monro, Chubby Checker, Earl Grant, Max Bygraves, Bob Dylan, The Quest - Singapore, Glen Campbell, Lena Horne, Julie Rogers ....
