當年美國社會, 仍視 "Bikini 比堅尼" 泳衣太有傷風化, 聲稱難成泳衣時裝的主流, 但這首歌面世後, 卻令 "比堅尼" 的銷售突起, 成為這欵泳衣被社會接受的始作俑者。同期已可見 "比堅尼" 泳裝出現沙灘埸景、海上滑浪的電影或電視, 這加速了比堅尼潮流的推動力, 更成了這首歌曲的氣勢。

此曲由 Paul Vance 與 Lee Pockriss 合作撰寫, 1960年六月, 由 Brian Hyland 與 John Dixon 的樂隊首次錄音發行, 同年八月八日登上 U.S. Billboard Chart 榜首位置一個星期, 當年的 Brian Hyland 祗有十六歲另二百七十天。

Brian Hyland 生於1943年十一月十二日 New York City, 他是六十至七十年代, 一位受歡迎的美國流歌手和青年樂迷偶像, Brian 自幼習結他與單簧管樂器, 亦有参加教堂歌詠合唱十四歲曾自組合唱隊 "Delfis" 参予唱片公司試音, 可惜未被錄用。後來給 Kapp Records 錄取為個人歌手, 首張歌曲是1959年的 "Rosemary"。繼而被 Kapp 公司的作曲, 作詞家 Paul Vance 和 Lee Pockriss 重用, 給他不少歌曲錄音的機會; "Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" 就是成功的歌曲之一。及後 Brian Hyland 另有一首至今亦不絶於耳的經典, 就是1962年的 "Sealed With A Kiss"。
